Why Being Authentic is Essential to Small Business Success

Are you tired of putting on a fake face and pretending to be someone else in your small business? Do you find it exhausting trying to live up to other peoples expectations of who you should be as a business owner? Yeah... I was there too! As a photographer, I know first-hand how important it is to show up as your true self in business. The camera doesn't lie and it can always pick up when you aren't comfortable, whether its the location, the outfit, the visual story you are presenting. So here are some reasons why being authentic is essential to your small business success.

  1. Build deeper customer relationships customers don't just buy your products or services, they buy into the person behind the business. By being you - you are building a deeper relationship and brand loyalty with your customers/clients. Let your personality shine through in your marketing and outreach. Share your personal stories and experiences with your audience. Use humor to connect with your customers to make them feel more at ease with you. Authenticity builds trust and loyalty, which leads to repeat business and positive word of mouth marketing. 2. Stand out in a crowded marketplace In todays digital age, it's easy to get lost in the crowd. How many times have you caught your self saying "Wow everyone is a xxxx now". If you show up as your true self, you can stand out from the crowd. Don't be like everyone else in your industry. Showcase your unique personality. By being authentic, you can create a niche for yourself and attract customers who resonate with you and your brand. 3. You will attract the right clients When you are authentic, you'll attract the right type of clients for your business. Authenticity repels those who don't align with your values and attracts those who share your vision. You'll be able to connect with clients who are on the same wavelength as you and who appreciate the work you do. Be true to yourself in your marketing and outreach, and you'll find that you'll attract clients who value your authenticity. 4. Better worl-life balance When you are not trying to be someone you're not, you'll find that you have more energy and time for the things that matter most to you. Being authentic lets you prioritize your home-work balance in a way that works for you. You'll be able to focus on the parts of your business that you enjoy the most, while also having time for your personal life. It really is a win-win!! 5. its just more fun! Let's be honest, being authentic is just more fun! When you can let go of trying to be someone else and just be yourself, business becomes more enjoyable and less stressful. You will feel lighter. More relaxed. and Happier overall. Who doesn't deserve that in their business journey?!!? In the end, being authentic is the most important part of running a business... I took me a very long time to be ok with letting all the facets of who I am shine through my business. I was terrified that if I let the world she how much of a shitshow my ADHD and Lupus made my life that people would think less of me.

I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea... I am more like an earthy whiskey that has been aged to perfection...
